Hopi Gaming Task Team to Present to Off-Reservation Hopis

Public Presentation set for Hopi Members in Tucson and Phoenix

Kykotsmovi, AZ. The Hopi Tribal Council Gaming Task Team (HGTT) has been presenting to the Hopi villages and communities on the leasing of Hopi Tribal gaming devices. The Gaming Task Team invites Hopi tribal members to a presentation that will be held in Tucson and Phoenix, and will ask for your input by completing a simple survey.

Tucson – Monday June 27 at 6 – 8 p.m. at the Tucson Indian Center

Phoenix – Tuesday, June 28 at 6 – 8 p.m. at the Intertribal Council of Arizona

To date the HGTT has presented to 10 villages and two communities off reservation.

The Gaming Task Team is authorized by Resolution H-083-2015 and is charged with exploring and analyzing the advantages and benefits of tribal gaming, and to educate the Hopi public. Once the Hopi public is informed the team will make its recommendations to the Hopi Tribal Council.   Information gathered from the surveys will be presented to the Tribal Council to assist in determining if there is support for gaming. Due to declining revenues from Peabody Coal the Hopi Tribal Council felt that the opportunity of leasing gaming devices will help subsidize tribal funding. The Hopi Tribe was allocated a number of gaming devices as part of Proposition 202 when Arizona Tribes renewed gaming compacts with the state of Arizona in 2002.
