NEWS UPDATE ON HOPI ELECTIONS 2013

Kykotsmovi, AZ – The Hopi Election Board will conduct the 1st round of Candidate Petitioners on August 28, 2013 at the Hopi Wellness Center Conference Room beginning at 6:30 p.m. (MST).  Interviews of the candidates will be conducted to certify the Candidate Petitioners who have submitted their petitions for the Chairman or Vice Chairman.  The petition requires (10) or more Hopi adult member signatures. The (10) or more signatures are verified by the Hopi Tribal Enrollment department.  Verification is sent to the Hopi Elections Office for process.

The Hopi Election Board scheduled three dates for interviews:

August 28, 2013
September 18, 2013
October 9, 2013

Interviews for the Candidate Petitioners will be held at the Hopi Wellness Center Conference Room beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Petitions submitted within these time frames will be schedule for the next scheduled interviews.  

 The Election Board has 24 hours to notify the Candidate Petitioner who has been through the interviews, of their decision. Once the Candidate Petitioner has been Officially Certified by the Hopi Election Board, the Board will announce the Candidates name for the office for which they have been certified for.

October 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. is the deadline for the Candidate Petitioner to submit his/her petition.  Those who submit on this deadline date will have their interview on the following date at the Hopi Elections Office.  Due to the time lines of printing and sending out the Absentee Ballots the Candidate Petitioners submitting on the deadline date will not have the public interview as those who submitted their petitioners earlier.

Following the deadline date of October 16, 2013, the Board will hold a public random drawing of the Candidate Petitioner names for each position to see where their names will be placed on the ballot.  The Candidate Petitioner and the general public are welcome to come witness this event which will be held at the Hopi Elections Office.
